Pat will present this six week Lenten course as an introduction to the Sacred Scriptures—their inspiration, their history and their relationship to the Church. “The Word of God in the Life of the Church”

A Six-Week Study on the role of Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition together as taught in the Dogmatic Constitution, Dei Verbum

Instructor: Pat May
Location: Christ on Main, Downtown Greenville
Primary Text: Dei Verbum, The Catechism of the Catholic Church

Course Overview

This six-week Lenten study introduces participants to the Church’s teaching on Divine Revelation as articulated in Dei Verbum, the Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation from the Second Vatican Council.

The study will explore how God reveals Himself in history, how Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition form one sacred deposit of the Word of God, and how the Church faithfully interprets and safeguards this Revelation.

Particular attention will be given to:

  • Christ as the fullness of Revelation
  • The relationship between Scripture and Tradition
  • Biblical inspiration and inerrancy
  • The interpretation of Scripture within the Church
  • How to read the scriptures faithfully and devotionally as Catholics
  • The duty of Sacred Scripture to point to the incarnate Word, Jesus Christ, the Son of God and particularly how He gives Himself to us in the Holy Eucharist

The aim is both theological clarity and spiritual renewal during the Lenten season.
